SACRUM

Of all the terms used on this site,
Hieronymancer is probably the least familiar.

What follows is like a parable
rather than a definition -
for the Source of our Inner Power
does not let itself
easily be defined!

The most intimate area of the human body is also the seat of its power and the womb of human creativity; the container that surrounds it has the Latin name sacrum, the sacred, originally os sacrum, the sacred bone. The Romans took the name from the Greek where it's called hieron osteon, the holy (or strong) bone.

This area is revered by many esoteric spiritual warrior and sacred sexuality traditions. It is the hara in Qi Gong and Kung Fu, the wellspring of Yuan Qi energy in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the sacred fire of the Tibetan and Peruvian shamans; its power is invoked during the more advanced Reiki initiations. The hara is powerful and yet utterly vulnerable. Here the Divine Feminine is honoured, worshipped and adored - it is in ancient traditions the womb of the Holy Spirit; within this space we were all brought from cell simplicity through body-nurture into human being-ness on this Earth, a journey from orgasm through a kind of death into breathing "reality."

It is said that the journey between head and heart is the longest journey, but in our modern culture this is hardly true. The longest journey lies much deeper, much lower. Most of us have forgotten much of its route, its pathways lie unknown and are little used; this is the physical journey of the soul downwards - from heart to groin. For a renewed meaningful energetic connection pathway to be made between our chests and our sacred fire, there is often deep learning to be first undone and then re-done, that the communication may become liberated in both directions. And yet this journey is intended to be instantaneous if the conditions are right, and then to be expanded to include the whole of us, from head to toe and back again. The ultimate point of the pathway is to reconnect us with unquenchable inner knowing of wholeness; it transforms any fear we may have, and lets us experience heaven-on-earth.

The place of the hara in our body is much like that of the Earth in our part of Space. The Earth is wet and moist and fertile - it can blaze and blow and rage with tempests, storms and waters and it can be gentle and supporting of growing life. To discover Earth's essence and to work with Her to bring forth better living conditions, we send out geomancers who, if attuned to Her, co-operate with Earth and discover Her latent powers, helping to redirect dangerous energy build-up, releasing blockages, and promoting Abundant Flow and Healing. The hieronymancer does the same for the hara, helping to discover, redirect and unscramble unhealthy energy patterns, releasing blockages in order to promote Abundant Flow and Healing.

This is subtle and intimate work. It requires a high level of mutual trust, and a sense of courage for both client and hieronymancer. Knowing when to calm and when to rouse the dormant serpentine energy, and how to use it, is not done without gentleness and a journey of deepening understanding - this is potentially the Source of our most intense personal transformation. It is our Divine Source connecting to the Divine Source - hence the term sacred sexuality.

Romancing the Sacrum means allowing our holy bone to tell its story. The body cannot ever really deceive - it is built for truth, to show what's needing attention and where there are unresolved tensions and imbalances. The sacrum tells the inner truth, which for many people is well-hidden, even from themselves.
The story-telling is not merely spoken, it is facilitated in the body - this transformational journey we call the hieronymatic path.

For some upon this hieronymatic path, sacred sensuality exercises and direct pathways to sexual self-discovery are the best ways to be reunited with their Source. For others, the seemingly less direct approach of Source Breathing, subtle body-movement exercises, dance and Acupressure/other Meridian Channel Therapy is appropriate. The less-direct approach is also a good way to lead gently in to sacred sexuality therapy. In short, this work can be sexual, but does not need to be.

The hieronymatic path is always a journey full of revealed mysteries ( - as a facilitator I grow inwardly each time I am privileged to be its witness.) It is a journey where forgotten emotional, and sometimes physical, wounds from childhood usually surface, together with any experiences of abuse, any lack of physical touch or hidden feelings of inadequacy. These wounds are not always physical, but rather, wounding imprints which the body's cells remember. Some wounds may need deep shamanic healing; some are like black holes needing multi-level jouneys to "retrieve the parts of oneself that may have fled in fear, never yet returned." Such work can only be done in an environment of safety, compassion and unconditional love.

It is sometimes appropriate that the work be done in a small group - your story is, at the very heart of things, also my story and her story and his story and their story. By shamanic journeying within such a group we can "re-write history" together and create new stories better aligned to our own passionate personal purpose. These groups also naturally create a powerfully safe sacred space in which transformational healing may more readily take place.
